  • Do Now- What do you think were the most important items to go each way between the Old World and the New World? Give at least two examples and explain their importance. (5 minutes)
  • Listen to and take notes over the presentation on the triangular trade. (30 minutes)
  • Turn to p. 4 of your packet, and answer the political aspects of exploration questions for discussion. Refer to pages 94-96 of your text as necessary. Prepare to discuss. (15 minutes)
  • Turn to p. 6 of you packet, and answer the economic aspects of exploration questions for discussion. Refer to pages 96-101 and 137-141 of your text as necessary. Prepare to discuss (20 minutes)
  • Exploration map and research poster are due on Monday.
  • Exploration test is Monday. You will be able to use your completed map on the test.

  • We completed Trail of Tears.
  • Students turned in the T of T study guides.
  • We discussed:
    • Cherokee Nation v. Georgia (1831)
    • Worcester v. Georgia (1832)
    • Charles River Bridge Co. v. Warren Bridge Co. (1837)
  • The unit 2 DBQ planning worksheet, Judicial Nationalism, and Secret Life assignments have been scored and entered.
  • Chapter 11, 12 vocab quiz is Friday.

  • Do Now- How were the Ming (Chinese) voyages of exploration different from the Europeans?
  • Research your topic, following the directions on the Columbian Exchange Research Poster page of your Exploration packet.
    • If you need another sheet of paper, pick one up from me.
    • This is the only class time you will have for research and poster preparation!
    • If you are not finished with your map, you will need to take it with you to finish at home!
  • Maps and research posters will be due Monday, November 4.
  • Monday will also be the Exploration assessment.  You will be allowed to use your completed maps on the test.

  • Do Now- What countries took the lead in exploration? What factors account for this? (3 minutes)
  • Turn to the “Ming Naval Expeditions” page in the packet. Use information from the video and page 103 of your text to complete the compare/ contrast organizer. (20 minutes)
  • Turn to the “Japan returns to Isolationism” page of the packet. Use the information on pages 108-113 to complete the story notes page. (20 minutes)
  • With any time remaining, work on completing the Political, Social, and Economic aspects of exploration on your exploration maps. Whatever is not done in class today will need to be done on your own.
  • Exploration map and research poster will be due on Monday, November 4.
  • Exploration test is also Monday, 11/4.

  • Test corrections need to be finished ASAP!
  • Listen to presentation about pre-Columbian civilizations.
  • Listen to presentation about the Columbian Exchange, and choose research topic. Directions are on page 8 of the learning targets packet.
  • Pick up your maps.
    • Finish coloring and labeling oceans and continents if you haven’t already.
    • Begin working on the Political aspects of exploration on your maps using the instructions on p. 5. Answer questions on p. 6.
    • Move on to Economic, then Social aspects when finished.
