<description>Today I am going talk about the conflict of slavery

when Africans were slaves, and they were not free

A time of large economic growth is when this conflict began,

and it continued over an eventful 12 year span.

Please take a look at this slave chart,

and make sure to stay quite, because im about to start

------------------------------------------------

The slavery conflict was being fought back and forth

By the states of the south, and the states of the north

The states of the south supported slavery

and the north opposed them with much bravery

-------------------------------------------------

Anti-slave groups did exist,

these groups were called abolitionist... s.

Many of them helped slaves and broke the code,

by helping them escape through the Underground Railroad

Many slaves followed these routes, the young and the old,

they all ended up in Canada, where it was very cold

Over 30,000 slaves had escaped,

And the look on slavery was reshaped.

---------------------------------------------

A compromise that proved very nifty

was the compromise of 1850

This compromise had 5 laws

which all shared the same cause:

balancing the interests of the southern slave states,

and the interests of the northern free states

One of these laws was very great,

And admitted California as a free state

This compromise dropped the Wilmot Proviso

Which would have banned slavery in Mexico

------------------------------------------------

There was an abolitionist and author named Harriet Beecher Stowe,

who wrote a book that everyone grew to know

&quot;Uncle Tom&#039;s Cabin&quot; was its name

and it put all slave owners to shame

It attacked the cruelty of slavery with facts

and lead to many slavery-related acts

Uncles Tom&#039;s Cabin was the best selling book during it&#039;s time,

and it took me a long time to make this whole poem rhyme

------------------------------------------------------

In 1864 the Congress had a question that was debated

and came up with an answer that the North hated

They decided to allow the movement of slavery

To advance into the western territorie... s

This decision had a name, as a matter of fact,

It was called the Kansas-Nebraska Act

In the north this act was greatly hated,

In result, the Republican party was created.

--------------------------------------------------

In 1857 a new president named James Buchanan was elected

And was the last pro-slavery president selected

He tried to avert the civil war,

But greatly failed and his reputation tore.

His presidency can be seen as a crime,

Many say he was the worst of all time

After his presidency the civil war had begun

This long poem is almost done

------------------------------------------------------

A new man was in town

This crazy man&#039;s name was John Brown

He was an abolitionist with a large beard,

And led rebellions in which many men feared.

One of these rebellions was very scary

He lead 21 men into Harpers Ferry

It was a rebellion of much violence and gore,

And some say it led to the civil war

With all the blood that he had spilled,

He was hung and killed.

If John Brown was mentally sane or not was a mystery,

But he surely left a spot for himself in the history... books.

----------------------------------------------

All this madness and chaos was finally put to shame,

One man changed it all; Abraham Lincoln was his name

He was born in 1809 and was a Kentucky resident,

Abraham was the first Republican president.

He was a great 16th president that many grew to adore,

And led America through it&#039;s greatest internal crisis: the Civil War

He was republican and his beliefs were strong,

Abraham understood that slavery was wrong.

This man with the tall black hat was very clever,

and abolished the practice of slavery forever.
