I distributed the WWI Propaganda Activity and spent the rest of the period reviewing propaganda posters and helping students complete part one of the activity.

Students took the chapters 33, 34 vocab quiz and then worked either on the New Deal Project or Discourse for unit 6.

We wrapped up the technology in warfare activity and students turned in their notes over the film clips.  Students should also complete the Technology in Warfare  page of the WWI packet before coming to class Friday.

Students watched Surviving the Dust Bowl, and then had time to work on the New Deal project. You may want to check out my notes and New Deal chart for a starting point.

The New Deal Project will be due Tuesday, March 3.

Students watched clips from theatrical films to illustrate the development and application of technology to warfare.  Students were to take notes for each clip in order to:

  • identify the use of technology (weapons, machines, structures, etc.)
  • explain the use of that technology
  • describe how the technology changed warfare

Students will work on unit 6 Discourse.  If students finish Discourse or for some reason Discourse is not working, they should work on the New Deal Project.

We reviewed the first 4 sections of notes in the WWI packet. I then spent much of the period discussing trench warfare, illustrating with photos and animations.

I collected the visual  notes homework and we re-enacted the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand.

The first four sections of notes in the WWI packet need to be finished for Monday.

I reviewed the WWI vocab terms and the WWI map, and then I lectured over the MAIN causes of WWI.

Following the lecture I distributed the WWI visual notes assignment that will be due Friday and students had the remainder of the period to work on that.

  • the Red Scare
  • the Scopes Trial
  • Prohibition
  • New Culture
  • economic growth

Students took the Setting the Stage for WWI quiz, then picked up the WWI vocabulary sheet and the WWI map.  Both of these will be due on Block Day next week.  Please note that the first term on the vocab sheet, entente, can be found on page 409 of the current text.

Students took the chapter 30 vocab quiz.  I then talked about the Paris Peace Conference, the Treaty of Versailles, and the ratification debate in the U.S. Senate.

2nd and 7th hour- I lectured of the rise of Modern Japan.

2nd hour- watched Bismarck, Germany From Blood and Iron.

7th hour- read and answered questions from the Meiji Japan reading. The answers will be due Friday.

Both hours- Setting the Stage quiz and Setting the Stage study guide due Friday.
