We ranked the ten scientists we learned about for the Scientific Revolution. In second hour, Andreas Vesalius won, followed by Isaac Newton, and then William Harvey in third. Harvey won in both 4th and 5th hours, with Newton 2nd and Vesalius 3rd in 4th hour, and Vesalius 2nd and Nicolaus Copernicus 3rd in 5th hour.
On Monday we will begin our examination of the Enlightenment.

Students took the Unit 3 objective test. On Monday, students will work through several DBQ writing exercises leading to the writing of their very first DBQ in class on Tuesday!

Students completed the “Introducing the Scientists” activity in groups, then took notes on several more scientists of the Scientific Revolution. At the end of the period, students worked on ranking the scientists in order of importance according to criteria they developed.

We discussed “Bleeding Kansas” before reviewing the prompt and documents for the unit 3 DBQ on Monday. Don’t forget that the Unit 3 objective test if Friday. The review question bank is available at The Testing Center.

We completed the exploration learning targets with an overview of the Ming naval expeditions of Zheng He, and the isolationism of the Tokugawa Shogunate, with the resulting push for industrialization with the Meiji Restoration.
I then introduced the Scientific Revolution/Enlightenment unit and distributed the packets.

We reviewed several Antebellum reform movements, including abolitionism, women’s rights, temperance/ prohibition, public education, treatment of the mentally ill, and utopian communities. Tomorrow we will go over the DBQ question and documents before discussing Bleeding Kansas.
“Enlarging the National State” is due tomorrow. BTW “British Cession” is the same as the “Convention of 1818.”
Don’t forget the objective test is Friday! Find the review questions at The Testing Center.

After being placed in a new seating arrangement, students took the chapter 17, 18 vocab quiz. Unit 3 presentations were completed, then we discussed the readings over Stanton and Douglass.
Tomorrow, we will consider various Antebellum reform movements.

Students took the exploration quiz, and turned in their Mission study guides, exploration maps, and exploration map packets. Students finished before the end of the period started work on the Scientific Revolution/ Enlightenment vocab which will be due on block day next week.

Students took the chapter 15, 16 vocab quiz, and then we continued with unit 3 presentations. I expect to have 5-6 more presentations on Monday. The worksheet over President Polk’s request to Congress for a declaration of war against Mexico will also be due.

We briefly discussed the changing perceptions of democracy, who it should involve and who it should benefit. Students then began their unit 3 presentations. Expect to do 4-5 more on Friday following the chapter 15 & 16 vocab quiz.
