Students took the Unit 2 objective test. Students will need to bring paper and blue or black ink pen to class on block day for the DBQ writing exercise. On Friday, students will do test corrections, and receive assignments and due dates for Unit 3. Test corrections will require textbooks, #2 pencils, and good erasers.

We discussed Luther’s definition of faith, based on reading an excerpt from his Introduction to the Book of Romans, and students turned in their graphic organizers. We began viewing the film Luther, which we will continue on block day.

In Western World History, students completed a graphic organizer about Martin Luther using an in-class reading. Students were then given a selection from Luther’s Introduction to the Book of Romans, in his German translation of the Bible. A graphic organizer on Luther’s conception of faith will be due tomorrow. Tuesday and Block Day, students will watch the film Luther, which will help students visualize the concepts we are studying.

Students worked in groups to create mind maps covering 5 important religious groups of the Reformation: Roman Catholicism, Lutheranism, Calvinism, Anabaptism, and Anglicanism.

Student groups presented their President Precedent reports. Remaining time was given to students to work on Discourse.

Students did test corrections and learning targets for the Renaissance quiz, then began work on the Reformation vocabulary worksheet. The vocab will be due Monday, October 30.

Students discussed the causes and effects of the War of 1812, the Monroe Doctrine, and the Missouri Compromise. On block day groups will present the President Precedent reports.

Students reviewed key concepts of the Renaissance prior to taking the Renaissance quiz. Tomorrow students will do test corrections, and complete the learning target sheets for the quiz, as well as begin work on the Reformation vocabulary worksheet.

Students worked on Discourse for the entire period. Chapters 8 ad 9 will not be graded due to problems with the response database. Students will need to complete chapters 7, 10, 11, 12 by October 31. Tomorrow in class we will have a discussion centered around 3 topics: The War of 1812 (causes and effects), the Monroe Doctrine, and the Missouri Compromise.

APUSH- Students graded chapters 11 & 12 of the Unit 2 study guide. We summarized court cases: Marbury v. Madison (1803), McCulloch v. Maryland (1819), Dartmouth College v. Woodward (1818), Gibbons v. Ogden (1824), Fletcher v. Peck (1810), Martin v. Hunter’s Lessee (1816), and Cohens v. Virginia (1821).
WWH- We finished Much Ado About Nothing, then reviewed the famous people of the Renaissance. Students read short biographies of Machiavelli, Gutenberg, and Shakespeare and wrote key questions and answers for each paragraph.

APUSH- Due to the testing schedule, APUSH classes had a work day. Students worked on upcoming assignments and on the President Precedent Reports.
WWH- Students viewed Shakespeare’s Much Ado about Nothing. Due to the testing schedule, we will postpone the Renaissance quiz until Monday, October 23.

APUSH- Students met in their groups, Federalists and Anti-Federalists, to discuss and plan their positions of the 5 key issues. Representatives presented those positions to the opposition, who then had a chance to respond in writing in part B of the homework assignment for today. Those position statements were recorded and will shortly be uploaded to my podcasts.
WWH- Students worked to complete the Important People of the Renaissance pages of the Renaissance Packet. Those short summaries (Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael, Donatello, Sir Thomas More, William Shakespeare, Johan Gutenberg, Niccolo Machiavelli) will be due on Block Day.

APUSH- We graded chapters 9 and 10 in the Unit 2 Review Study Guide. Students then were divided into groups to begin preparations for the President Precedent reports. These reports will be due on block day, October 25 and 26.
WWH- Students watched a short film which provided an overview of the Renaissance, then completed the Renaissance notes in the Renaissance packet.
